Hotel Ritz, Sofia

“Scusi dov’è il Ritz, conosce l’indirizzo esatto?” Quando ho posto questa domanda all’uomo incravattato che stavamo intervistando,  i ragazzi con i quali lavoro mi hanno guardato con gli occhi sgranati, pensando “E tu che cazzo c’entri con il Ritz?”

Ritz è una di quelle parole, uno di quei modi di dire che tutti migranti conoscono, un po’ come malaka o jungle: semplici espressioni che per i migranti e per chi viaggia con loro hanno un altro suono, un altro significat0, aprono un altro mondo: ecco a voi il Ritz di Sofia, Bulgaria. Questo pseudo edificio ha ospitato i rifugiati che non avevano miglior riparo nella capitale bulgara fino alla fine dell’inverno del 2014. Hotel Ritz, Sofia

“Excuse me Sir, where is the Ritz ? Do you the precise address?” When I asked this address to the elegant man who we were interviewing, my colleagues looked at me with a surprise expression on their faces and a question inside their mind: “WTF, why Alberto is asking for the Ritz?”

Ritz is a word that hides a special meaning for migrants and for the people who travel with theme. Words like malaka or jungle for example are words that only the inside people can deeply understand.

The Ritz of Sofia, Bulgaria, states a squatted building in the suburbs of the city. This building was used as shelter by refugees in Sofia until the end of the winter 2014. This selection of photos is part of a project about walls that Mathieu Martinière, Daphne Gastaldi and me are doing. WeReport.fr
